Garmin Venu 2 – Bigger display, storage and battery
With the Venu 2 Garmin has launched its second generation AMOLED smartwatch. It is available in two different sizes and features superior battery life, bigger storage, new features and widgets.
In 2019 Garmin introduced the Venu – a new fitness smartwatch similar to the vivoactive 4 but with a colorful and crisp AMOLED display. Today Garmin has officially launched the successor.
Bigger display and extended battery life
The Venu 2 is available in two sizes, the smaller sized Venu 2S has a 1.1″ AMOLED display, while the Venu 2 offers a 1.3″ display. Compared to the 1.2″ uniformly sized first-generation Venu, it’s on you to pick the one that suits you best.
Venu | Venu 2S | Venu 2 | |
---|---|---|---|
Display Size | 1,2" | 1,1" | 1,3" |
Resolution | 390 x 390 | 360 x 360 | 416 x 416 |
Pixel Density | 325 PPI | 327 PPI | 320 PPI |
But it’s not only the display size Garmin has been worked on, the battery life is twice as long as the predecessor’s one.
Venu | Venu 2S | Venu 2 | |
---|---|---|---|
Smartwatch Mode | 5 days | 10 days | 11 days |
GPS + Music | 6 hours | 7 hours | 8 hours |
While the Venu lasts up to 5 days in smartwatch mode and up to 6 hours recording with GPS and playing music at the same time, the Venu 2’s battery will deliver as much power as to run the Venu 2 up to 10-11 days in smartwatch mode. Though it is not clear if the Venu 2 has a bigger battery or if it’s consuming less power. The new rapid recharge technology allows for having the watch back on your wrist in less time. A 10 minute charge is enough to power the watch for a whole day or up to one hours GPS recording and music listening.
New widgets and features
The Venu 2 sports all the features the predecessor already had, but also offers some new distinctive ones:
25 pre-installed sport profiles
Garmin extended the number of pre-installed sport profiles. While the Venu offered 20 sport profiles, the Venu 2 is offering 25 sport profile for indoor and GPS-supported outdoor sports.
HIIT sports mode
The support for HIIT trainings is completely new. The Venu 2 supports different timers (AMRAP, ENOM, TABATA) that may be customized with respect to rounds, work and rest intervals. In addition HIIT exercises can be found among the animated training guides.
Fitness Age Widget
The fitness age display the metric that Garmin Connect users are already familiar with. Depending on your weekly activities, your resting heart rate and your BMI the watch determines what Garmin calls fitness age – a virtual age that should indicate if you’re fitter than the average person of your age and sex.
Health Snapshot
Using the health snapshot feature the Venu 2 is able to determine the most important vital signs based on a 2-minute-exercise. You’ll then get a short summary on the watch itself and a detailed report using the Garmin Connect app. The vital signs include your heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, respiration reate as well as the level of stress.
Bigger music storage
Many of Garmin’s more complex (and more expensive) watches offer onboard storage that can be used to transfer music and podcasts. The storage depends on the product and reaches from 4 GB up to 32 GB. Though some of the storage is eaten up by the operating system and maps, there is plenty of space left. While smaller models offer enough to store up to 500 songs, the Fenix 6 Pro can store up to 2,000 songs.
