The Venu Sq 2 is Garmin’s next product that is likely to be introduced shortly. After releasing many wearables in the upper price segment, the Venu Sq 2 and Venu Sq 2 Music are intended to attract buyers in the mid-price segment. Find all information about Garmin’s new smartwatch here.

The Venu Sq 2 has not been officially announced, yet some information has popped up recently. First, Garmin’s Vietnamese website listed the product. The page has been taken offline again and didn’t provide many details but it motivated me to do some search on the internet and voilà online retailer playbetter.com leaked the product in its (almost) complete glory. Unfortunately neither Garmin’s product page nor the information given on playbetter.com allow for a complete picture, but the Venu Sq 2 is gaining in contour.

Please keep in mind that until Garmin officially launches the product, all information given here should be treated with the necessary degree of suspicion.

Garmin Venu Sq 2 at a glance

The Venu Sq 2 is the successor of Garmin’s Venu Sq that came into life in 2020. The “Sq” refers to the watch’s shape as the Venu Sq has a square display, while most other watches from Garmin sport a circular display. The Venu Sq 2 will be no different and will be available in a standard and a music edition. The latter provides onboard storage and thus allows for storing media files, as well as offline streaming content (from Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music).

Compared side-by-side, it’s hard to spot major differences between the Venu Sq 2 and its predecessor. The strap seems to be 20 mm again, while the overall dimensions are likely to be the same.

The following table should give you a better overview, as it compares Venu Sq and Venu Sq 2.

Admittedly, some specs are still missing that I haven’t found online yet. As always, I promise to add them as soon as the information become available.

AMOLED instead of LCD display

One of Venu Sq 2’s major changes addresses the display. While the first-generation Venu Sq offered an LCD display, the Venu Sq 2 does feature a bright and colorful AMOLED display. The display should be similar to that of the Venu 2 and thus will be bright enough to ensure good readability outdoors.

I have not been able to find any information about the display’s size and resolution. Looking at the press renders, it seems that the display is larger as Garmin has removed the “Garmin” lettering at the bottom of the display.

At the expense of battery life, the Venu Sq 2 offers an always-on mode.

GPS and Multi-GNSS

The first generation supports the usual positioning systems GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. You can choose between using GPS alone or GPS in combination with GLONASS or Galileo. This results in higher accuracy, but also slightly higher battery consumption.

Appartently, the Venu Sq 2 supports Multi-GNSS (as embossed on the watch’s backside) and thus the possibility of using the signals from than just two systems simultaneously. It remains to be seen whether the watch also supports multi-band. Sure enough, the smartwatch is a mid-range product but so is the Forerunner 255 that supports L1/L5 frequencies.

Battery Life

The Venu Sq 2’s battery life has increased considerably. While the predecessor needed a recharge after 6 days in smartwatch mode, the Venu Sq 2 can last up to 11 days. I haven’t yet been able to find individual specs for the battery life when using GPS, Multi-GNSS and/or music playback. I will add them as soon as I find these information.

Availability and prices

I am pretty sure that the Venu Sq 2 will be released within the next 3 weeks. Too many sources on the Internet are running hot, and Garmin certainly won’t miss the IFA in Berlin to present the next generation smartwatch. Obviously Garmin considers the Venu Sq 2 more an evolutionary product, as no press conference is planned during the IFA Media Days. Usually Garmin holds press conferences at IFA to present major new products.

Garmin’s website offered a first glimpse on the prices. The Garmin Venu Sq 2 Music has been listed for 6,490,000 VND being approx. $275. playbetter.com did list both standard and music edition for $249.99 but my guess is that the price refers to the standard edition while the music edition will be $299.99.

When launched you can choose between variants in
